Day to Day Makeup

There are two reasons I usually avoid doing FOTDs. One is because I'm really not very photogenic, and so usually end up frustrated with the results, and the other is my horrific editing skills. You can absolutely guarantee that, if I do manage to get an ok photo, it's going to have a highly unsuitable background that I just can't bear to put on my blog. End result? This.
Can we just ignore the wonky edges and talk about what I've got on my face today?

IT Cosmetics Concealer in Shade 02 Neutral
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser in Sand
MUA Bronzed Perfection  Bronzer
MUA Cream Blush in Dolly
Mac MSF in Soft and Gentle
Vevo Colour Block Eye Palette (shades Flutter, Today and Divine)
L'oreal Volume Million Express Mascara
MUA Pro Brow Kit
HD Brows Brow Beater (eyebrow gel)
Revlon Lip Butter in Cherry Tart

Very much leaning towards the budget side of makeup looks, this is unusual for me, as I'm usually more of a high-end girl when it comes to bronzers and blushers. I'm happy to stick to high-street when it comes to mascaras and lippies, but having received a generous stack of parcels yesterday, courtesy of Mr Postman (all left over from Christmas, as I had to have them sent to me abroad), I was eager to crack open some of the goodies inside. This is my first foray into the world of Vevo, and I must say, so far I'm impressed. The palette contains a fantastic selection of neutrals, including several matte shades, and is right up my street now that I have got back into eyeshadow. As for the MUA Pro Brow kit and HD Brows Brow Beater - well, what life-savers. Though I usually fill in my brows with a powder, I had never really seen the point in an eyebrow gel, but as of today I am well and truly converted! I had no idea my brows could look so well-groomed.
On a slightly unrelated note, I would like to ask you all a little question. Now, this might just be me, but ever since I hit the wrong side of twenty-five, I have suddenly found myself plagued with the dreaded fine lines beneath the eyes. Yes, I know I always harp on about circles, bags and whatnot, but this time we are on relatively new ground. So, what I would like to know is whether any of you have tried any eye products that you feel have really made a difference to fine lines? If so, what was it?

Hope everyone is having a great week.

xx

  2. Love this! I'm glad you found the courage to post a fotd and just put away the insecurity of editing skills. You look amazing, yet so natural :) Love your makeup
I'm not familiar with products against fine lines, but Estee Lauder has amazing skin products! I bought a jar for my mom and I could immediately see results! I think it was the Estee Lauder DayWear with SPF, it was about €50 for a jar, but it really works! My mom's lines decreased and her skin just looks so much better and more glowy. Maybe you can ask for a sample :)

Estee Lauder seems like a good option - I was thinking of trying their Adnanced Night Repair Eye serum, as I saw a post about it yesterday. Thanks for the tip :)xx

  4. I am 46 and the best eye cream for wrinkles I have ever used is Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle Eye Cream. You have to use it twice a day but the results for me have been amazing. I know it works because if I stop using it to try something else all my lines, crepiness, dark circles and puffiness start to come back. I won't use anything else now, my eyes look so much brighter and younger.

I can't help you on the fine lines thing I'm afraid cuz I'm only 21, but have you tried microdermabrasion? :) Also that MUA blush looks really nice on your skion! x

  6. Mel listen to me - you are a very photogenic young woman. Stop. Saying. You're. Not. and have more faith. You look lovely in this FOTD :) TBH I've never found ANYTHING which remotely helps fine lines around the peepers, although I would recommend from now on in that you use a lightweight cream specifically formulated for eyes and always but always take lots of care when applying/removing eye makeup. That would be the best advice I can give. The only thing I have ever found which I thought made any difference to my eyes/bags/lines is YSL touche eclate. Applied correctly it can make everything look smoother and brighter around the old eye area.

    1. Thank you Kay but honestly, I have to take about fifty photos before I get a good one - I'm not saying that to fish for compliments, it's actually true! I do quite like this photo though, which is why I used it :) xx

  9. Mel! what's up with you girl - you look gorgeous - if you want to see un-photogenic look at my kite - why do you think I only ever do half of the thing? Your make-up looks lovely - love that MUA blush and the Revlon Lip Butter - brow gel is a really good idea too! On the subject of fine lines, I reckon a lot of the time they can be hereditory. Mine always look worse when my skin is de-hydrated - I use several different eye treatments but my Gatineau Aquamemory Roll-On is really good for hydrating my lined area. I'm actually using another eye-cream from Gatineau at night and it's lovely - will try and get the review up shortly! xx

    1. Honestly Jenny, it took so many attempts to get this photo! You look lovely in your half-face photos anyway, you should go for it!
I've never tried anything from Gatineau so will look out for those, thanks for the tip xx

  10. You look lovely in this image, and I agree with not usually going into the drugstore makeup area, but I have been recently, and I quite like some of it :) I am 16, and I use the Ole Henrikson Fresh Start Eye cream to prevent me from getting dark circles, etc, and lines under my eyes. I have viewed people who use it, and it really does work! So you might want to check that out xx
