Origins Gin Zing Eye Cream

It's no secret that I suffer from puffy eyes and eye bags, and that I will try pretty much anything in order to rid myself of them. The reason I find them so distressing is because I haven't always had them - everything was fine, and then I woke up one morning about six months ago, and there they were. They have been refusing to budge ever since. I eat well, sleep well, don't drink much any more and don't smoke, so having covered all of those bases, my only option is to plough my way through product after product on a quest to find the one (if it exists) that works for me.

As a fan of Origins skincare, and having heard many good things about their Gin Zing eye cream, I was itching to give it a try. Gin Zing contains caffeine, Panax Ginseng, Magnolia extract and natural optic brighteners, which work together to - in the words of Origins themselves -  'wake up, refresh and restore radiance to tired eyes'. It's also supposed to reduce the look of dark circles while making the appearance of bags and puffiness less visible, so needless to say, I couldn't wait to put it to the test.

The cream itself is a pale salmon colour, and contains little reflective particles, which helps to counteract and blue/purple tones under the eyes. It is light in texture, sinking easily into the skin. It's not sticky in the slightest, and makeup applies easily on top of it, gliding on smoothly.

So, now onto the most important part:
Does it do the job?

Well, unfortunately for me, the answer is a reluctant no. I wanted so badly for this to work, especially with it being from one of my very favourite and most trusted skincare brands, but in all honesty, I can't see that it makes - or has made - much of a difference. I still find myself catching a glimpse of my eyes in the mirror an hour or two later and feeling overwhelmingly frustrated at my tired looking eyes, so I think that says it all really. There's no denying that it certainly does keep the under-eye area hydrated, and perhaps it does have some effect, but if that's the case then I have to say, it's very minimal.

I still finding myself using this cream on a day to day basis, partly due to wishful thinking and partly because I can't bear to fork out on yet another eye cream that doesn't really deliver - at least, not in the way that I had hoped.

At £21.00 for a 15ml pot, it's fair to say I won't be repurchasing this particular product. However, as a brand, I am very much a fan of Origins, so I'm hoping that perhaps I might have more luck with their No Puffery under-eye mask.

Have any of you lovelies tried Gin Zing or No Puffery? If so, what were your thoughts?
And what are your favourite products for tired eyes, puffiness and dark circles?

xx

  1. Ah its so annoying when a hyped product does not work. I myself had been eyeing this up too. I don't know whether you have tried it but I use the Clinique all about eyes, they do an intense one which is slightly richer. Or if you are looking for something slightly more purse friendly then perhaps try The Body Shops vitamin E one which is fairly cheap but does the business.

    1. I know, such a pain! I think people do get a bit over-excited about things that are just 'ok' at times - and cult products do tend to get bigged up more by people who have recently jumped on the bandwagon and are happy to be a part of the hype.
I actually do have the Clinique All About Eyes serum and similarly don't find that it does much :( It's the one with the rollerball though so it does feel nice and cooling on application. Will have to check out the Body Shop one, thanks for the tip :)xx

  2. I'm using a sample of this at the moment, I do quite like it as an eye cream and I think it has made my under eye area look a bit brighter but I haven't noticed a great difference either. I, like you, expected great results because Origins products are amazing and whereas this is an okayish product, I was left disappointed because of how impressed I've been with other bits from the brand!

    1. Yes, same - it's quite nice as a general eye cream, and it does brighten (think I forgot to mention that in the post), but what's the use of brightening eye bags? If anything it just makes them stand out more :(xx

  3. Sob sob I was so hoping you were going to tell me this was a wonder cream. I've tried nearly everything on the market to no avail. My bags are hereditary though so there is probably little hope for me, although they never used to be as bad as they are now :( Hope you find something which works soon.

    1. It's awful isn't it, eye bags and dark circles make us look old before our time. I had such high hopes for this cream too, but alas, they were misguided ones! :( If I do ever find something that works then believe me, it'll be splashed all over this blog! Haha xx

    1. Thanks hun. You never know, this might work for you. Different products seem to work for different people. But I wouldn't recommend it xx

  5. glad I read this and have seen its not all its hyped up to be! Its a shame it didnt work for you though, I have heard from various skincare tutors etc that there is very little you can actually do about dark circles if you get them naturally...of course I dont know how true this is...lets hope its not! Hope you have better luck with your next product! :)

    1. Hmm, I'm not surprised to hear that if I'm honest - dark circles are not superficial, they are under the skin, so really it's silly to think a cream could rid us of them I suppose xx

  6. Another 'wonder poduct' gets debunked by an honest blogger. I sometimes wonder where the hype for these products comes from. Thanks for sharing, this had been on my wishlist for a while but I've scrubbed it off now! xx

    1. I know, it's so disappointing! I had such high hopes for this. But then again, some people do insist it works for them, so it might for you, though the majority of reviews I've read just big it up as a general eye cream but don't say much about the effects on dark circles and eye bags - makes me think they probably don't have these problems, so I suppose they would be more easily satisfied.xx
